How Many Cubs Scouts Does it Take to Put a Flag on a Gravesite?

At least 4. One to poke the hole, one to place the flag in the hole, one to count how many are left in the row, and one to hold the extra flags. I am sure we could have been more efficient in our working but they seemed to prefer it this way.

This year Andrew and his cub scout pack were able to place flags on the grave sites at Golden Gate National Cemetery. A large number of scout troops in the area gather every year to do this and this was the first year that Andrew and I participated. I have to admit, next to the Pinewood Derby, this is one of my favorite activities. It was a great reminder of the sacrifices these veterans have made and was a great kick off for the holiday weekend.

It was a early start and a lot of hard work so we finished it off with a quick trip to Crispy Cream for donuts.

Not a problem Nancy. Sometimes the more the merrier. Thanks for letting Andrew spend the night.

That's similar to our system. We use four as well.

1. Pokes the hole.
2. Carries the bundles of flags and hands flags to 3. and 4.
3. places a flag in the hole and then leap-frogs two stones forward.
4. places a flag in the hole that .3 missed, and then likewise leap-frogs two stones forward.

This has proven to be a very effective flag-placement method, honed over 17 years of practice (been doing this annually, first with Pack and Troop 92, then with Pack 290 and now with Troop 250 since 1994 :) ).

Michael, coming from you I am relieved to hear we are doing it right. I am sure we will stick with this routine for a long time.
