Sutter's Fort

Meet
Lansford W. Hastings and James Gregson.
It's that time again, Kira did the Sutter's Fort trip in 5th grade and now it is Andrew's turn.  He has been studying his character for months now and learning all he can about the early pioneers.  Today he gets to experience life first hand.  They will arrive in Old Sacramento this morning where they will ride a wagon into the Fort located downtown in Sacramento.  Tom's character (a wagoneer) will be guiding the wagon to the Fort.  There he will tell the kids his story how he discovered the short cut that lead to the Donner Party's tradgedy.  They will also get to make candles, build something in the wood shop, learn how to trap animals, prepare dinner, and also shop at the general store.  There has been months of preparation and many parents are going to help make this all happen.

So glad Tom is willing to go, sleeping on a hard floor in the distillery tonight with 30 5th graders may just be the end of his willingness.

Have fun, and see both of your tired faces tomorrow.

Jade's Favorite Things, #14

The Canadian Author, Robert Munsch
Many of you may know him for his overly sappy book titled, Love You Forever.  In my opinion his most famous is really his worst.  If you dig a little deeper and find all the books he has written you will find he is hysterical, not sappy.  His books sometimes have potty humor, and require an animated reader, but I promise you will laugh until your sides ache.  I had forgotten about these books until recently when I introduced them to Sean and my love was renewed.  Tonight we started with Stephanie's Ponytail, and tomorrow I will read him Purple, Green and Yellow, and I am looking forward to it.

If you are looking for a fun read for your kids as well as yourself, I promise these won't disappoint.

Happy Birthday Kira!

See this cute face next to her daddy?
That is usually how you find this girl, right next to her Dad.  This photo is from 2006 and today she is definately taller and more grown up.  She is also branching out a bit now that she is 15, but I have noticed that even with her busy schedule, and long list of friends on Facebook, she still finds time to be at her Dad's side.
Happy Birthday Kira!
We love you.

Honey Baked Ham

Before Christmas I told Sean that I was going to get a ham for our Christmas Dinner and asked if he wanted to come.  He asked me what a Ham was and I explained that it was a pig.  He quickly replied, "I don't like pig."  I replied, "Yes you do, it is ham."

His response to that with a a disgusted look on his face was, "I don't like pig, they have money in them."

I guess piggy banks are more common in our house then ham for dinner.
