Square Dancing... but not Square.

In 3rd grade at our elementary school, the kids learn how to square dance. Kira did it when she was in 3rd grade and now it was Andrew's turn. They have been practicing all year and put on quite the show this past week at Open House.

Pretty much every kid in the room was straight faced or almost mortified to be doing it in front of the parents. Andrew was the exception and I saw a few smiles while he was dancing. All year he has loved doing it and had fun showing us his moves.

Glad to see he doesn't have 2 left feet.

Smart Parenting?

I know for millions of years many parents have survived with out today's technology. I just can't understand how or what they did. Recently at Kira's band concert Tom's iPhone was the only thing that would keep Sean from making a huge scene. Thank goodness for 3g and free episodes of Thomas the Train on Utube. Not sure how I would parent with out it.

Amgen Tour of California

Today around 11:30 Sean and I (and the contractors still working on our bathroom) got quite a show from the Amgen Tour of California. They made their way down Hwy 1 and we caught a few pictures. Sean loved it. His favorite park was all the trailing cars with tons of bikes on top. He kept saying, "Mom, bike!" I think he was really hoping for a ride.

It was a quick show but sure fun to watch. Can you find Lance Armstrong, I know he was #2, but not sure if I got him?

High Heels

Now I know he is my son. My boys can walk in heels at a early age. Andrew was the same way and now Sean has mastered the skill.

Fathers And Sons

Every year Andrew and Tom go on the Fathers and Sons campout, and every year (because I don't go) there are never any pictures. This year I snapped one on their way out, along with Reggie and Luke. This is probably the best thing to do since after hearing their stories of what takes place pictures could get us all in trouble.

Reggie and Tom usually trade off driving. We were explaining this to Andrew and he thought maybe there were going to start trading off who plays Dad each year. Andrew seemed fine with Reggie taking him and Luke one year and then Tom taking them the next. While Tom just about jumped at the idea, I know Reggie would miss it if he didnt' go.

I am always glad when they go, I usually get a quiet weekend at home. I keep begging Tom to take Sean but apparently 19 months doesn't qualify you as camp ready just yet. Maybe next year? The best part about keeping Sean home is at least he goes to bed early.

So here's to Fathers and Sons (the campout) and to Mothers and Babies who go to bed early.

Bathroom Remodel Continues

If you are tired of the bathroom remodel posts, try living and working in the house where it is all taking place? Plan one, as I like to call "Operation Match the Tile" has been aborted since the match to my pinkish, orangish, tanish tile is no where to be found. We are now into plan B which I call, "Rip it all out and start over." After one day of letting the contractors loose again, this is the result. Let's just hope it all comes back together beautifully. In my mind it's gorgeous, I just hope the contractor can extract the images in my head.

Mother's Day Poem

All is quiet in the Porter house
on the eve of this Mother's Day.

I open the fridge and noticed my cake
shining bright as a sun ray.

Decided right then and there
I would start my party early.

Hoping the kids won't notice
and trade me in, for a new mom named Shirley.

Happy Mother's Day!

See Kira and Tom, your not the only poets in the house.

Deck 2, Now Finished

I can now walk to the Garage with out the fear of falling through. So glad to have this one finished.
